Perfect World Internationals leveling system spans over many levels. Currently there is no maximum level that can be achieved. The char with the highest level on the server continues to rise. I appears that a maximum level of around 130-150 may exist, however between level 100-105 seems to be as high as people have achieved. As you level you are given stat points to distribute. You gain 5 stat points per level and you are able to distribute them as you wish among your 4 stats. This gives you the freedom to make a Wizard char for example who typically has low hp into a high hp Wizard tank. By doing this you sacrifice some magical damage but can gain different advantages.

Strength adds to physical melee damage that a character does as well as is a prerequisite to wearing heavier grades of armor.

Dexterity allows a ranged char to do more damage, raises evasion which lets one avoid a physical attack and is a prerequisite for armor as well.

Magic raises a characters magic attack damage and is a prerequisite for magical armors. Magic also affects your mana regeneration rate as well as your maximum amount of mana.

Vitality affects your maximum amount of hit points and your hit point regeneration rate.

As you level up your character, you earn experience points as well as spirit. Spirit is used to learn new skills for your class of character. Here is an example of a skill tree for an Archer. The more advanced skills have certain skills as a prerequisite and have a level requirement to be able to learn them.

Every level you gain gives you access to additional quests to complete. The rewards can include Experience, Coins, Reputation, Equipment, Potions, Items, Spirit. Pressing "Q" on your keypad will open up your quest log. Here is an example of what it looks like.

Upon reaching level 89 you are able to choose to follow the Sage or Demon path. Each skill has a maximum level of 10. Once the Sage or Demon path is chosen you are able to use special skill books to raise your skills to level 11. You gain a lot of power and new sub abilities for each skill that are unique to the path that you choose. Choosing to go demon or sage is a matter of debate as their are both pros and cons to picking either for every character class. Do you choose to have higher damage, longer range of attack, mana stealing, special attack barriers to form around you? It brings another advanced and wonderful aspect to the game.
